4 Ways To Save Money On Professional Moving Services

Hiring a professional moving company is a great way to save yourself some stress and hassle during a move. Plus, when you trust experienced professionals with handling your possessions, you can enjoy the peace of mind in knowing they're get from point A to point B. Still, moving companies can be pricey, which is why it's important to exhaust all your money-saving options when hiring a mover--especially if you're on a tight budget.

Forego a Weekend Move

Many moving companies charge by-the-hour, and if you take a look at their hourly rates, you'll find that they're higher during the weekends. This is because weekends are considered "peak" moving times. If you want to save some money, book your move for a weekday or other "non-peak" season. You might be surprised at not only how much you can save, but how much easier it is to coordinate a moving time to suit your schedule.

Find a Mover With Non-Binding Estimates

Ideally, you'll also want to find a moving company that will only charge you for the actual time/resources used on the day of your move, rather than a pre-determined price. This way, if you don't end up needing the full block of time for your move, you'll be charged only for the portion of time that you used. Be sure to ask around, as not all moving companies will offer non-binding estimates.

Hold a Garage Sale Before the Move

Cut down on the amount of moving help you need by holding a garage sale prior to your move to clear out clutter! This is also a great way to start fresh at your new place by getting rid of unwanted items. Plus, you can use some of the proceeds from your garage sale to offset your moving costs--creating a win-win situation.

Research Promotions and Question Fees

Be sure to scour the Internet and local ads for special promotions offered by your moving company. Don't hesitate to reach out to them on social media or another outlet to ask if there are any additional ways you can save on your moving quote. And when you receive your estimate, be sure to ask about any fees you don't understand. You might be able to get some of them waived.

A little bit of effort and research can go a long way when it comes to saving money on your next move, so be sure to keep these tips in mind.
